- Diamonds Are a War's Best Friend: The Trade of Arms for Diamonds in Africa

Yesterday, the United Nations Security Council warned countries that violated sanctions against Angola’s UNITA rebels that they may face U.N. penalties for having helped the rebels to restart their war with the government.

- Sounds From the Battle After Seattle

Thousands of protesters from all over the world shut down the nation’s capital over the past few days, protesting the World Bank and IMF’s policies toward developing nations, which they say have sunk these countries into deeper poverty. From the young to the old, from anti-sweatshop college students to Latin American trade unionists, from African environmentalists to Asian activists, the protesters blocked roadways to the World Bank and the IMF as the two institutions held their annual spring meetings. Over 1,000 people were arrested in the last four days.
